PLC Construction, Inc. was a contractor for I&E construction, programming, and commissioning services for a 200MMSCFD Cryogenic gas plant in South Texas. PLC’s original scope was the control system hardware specification, PLC programming, HMI development and commissioning. The plant used a redundant Allen Bradley CLX (PCS) and an Allen Bradley GuardLogix (SIS) with a Wonderware HMI. In addition, a smart MCC and switchgear monitoring was integrated into the control system.
Late in the construction phase, PLC was asked to perform ISA 84 Segregation on the control system. PLC mobilized a crew of engineers, programmers, instrument technicians and electricians 6 weeks early to ensure the segregation was properly implemented and there was no delay in schedule.
To achieve this goal, all wiring drawings were updated, our electrical construction crew performed the new I/O terminations and simultaneously our programmers were performing loop checks on the completed panels. The operations staff was embedded in the loop check process from the control room to the field to guarantee thorough training.
