Water / Wastewater Municipality
PLC Construction was contracted by the City to upgrade portions of their water / wastewater system. The project was divided into two parts. The first portion of the project consisted of designing, procuring, configuring, and commissioning an Enterprise SCADA system. The second portion was to install local HMIs at 11 lift stations across the system.
The Enterprise SCADA system was built to connect all the facilities in the city’s water / wastewater system. The water treatment and wastewater treatment facilities, 11 lift stations, and 3 water plants are now integrated into a single SCADA system for operations and data collection. A mobile application was also developed to allow operators and management to access the SCADA data from anywhere they have an internet connection.
In addition to development of an Enterprise SCADA system, PLC was also asked to provide an HMI solution at each of the 11 lift stations. In the past, the only visualization for the lift stations was from a screen at the water treatment plant. Adding panel PCs to each of the lift stations allows city operations to control while on-site, providing a better method of troubleshooting and maintenance. Both the Enterprise SCADA system and HMI network was built using the Ignition HMI/SCADA platform. The Vision module was utilized to provide on-site visualization while the Perspective module was utilized for the remote mobile application.
